State Trade
Texas was the largest exporter to Egypt of all 50 U.S. states, exporting USD 1.5 billion and representing 25% of all U.S. exports to Egypt in 2021. Louisiana and Ohio followed behind, exporting USD 963.6 million (17%) and USD 354.8 million (6%), respectively. These three states mainly send oil seeds and mineral fuels, as well as plastics and cereals. Other top states and districts exporting to Egypt include Illinois, District of Columbia and California. These six represented 59% of total U.S. exports to Egypt in 2021.

The top states receiving Egyptian exports were led by Louisiana, which in 2021 took in USD 769.7 million worth, accounting for 23% of all Egypt’s exports to America. New Jersey and New York followed, taking up 11% and 10%, respectively. Texas and Georgia rounded out the top five, representing a combined share of 18%. Louisiana primarily imported fertilizers, textiles and apparel, rubber, mineral fuels and base metals. The other top four states import large volumes of textiles and apparel, vegetables, fruits, nuts and other food products as well as glass and ceramics, and works of art and collector pieces.
There was a shift in the most popular destinations for Egypt’s exports during 2021. Exports to Louisiana, which ranked fifth in 2020, grew almost 250%, while exports to Texas, the top recipient in 2020, declined 8%. Exports to New Jersey and New York saw YoY growth of 22% and 38%, respectively.
