U.S. Chamber Vice President, Myron Brilliant Visits Egypt



U.S. Chamber Executive Vice President and Head of International Affairs, Myron Brilliant visited Cairo during the period from July 12th to July 15th -. This visit came as a testament to the optimism of the leadership of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce about Egypt's economic reform agenda, and its success in driving the growth of the Egypt-U.S. Bilateral Commercial Relationship.

On July 15, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi welcomed the visiting U.S. Chamber officials; Mr. Brilliant, Mr. Khush Choksy, Senior Vice President, Middle East and Turkey Affairs, and Mr. Steve Lutes, Vice President, Middle East Affairs, to discuss the strategic U.S.-Egypt relationship, developments in the Middle East region, and ideas focused on expanding the bilateral economic relationship. The President highlighted the importance of the private sector in strengthening U.S.-Egyptian ties and expressed his appreciation for the critical role the U.S. Chamber and the U.S.-Egypt Business Council play in expanding the bilateral economic relationship. President El Sisi spoke about Egypt’s fiscal and economic reforms and the investments the country is making, particularly in infrastructure.

Mr. Brilliant also met with Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mohamed Madbouly who reiterated the significance of the U.S. Chamber and the U.S.-Egypt Business Council's work, in partnership with AmCham Egypt, in promoting economic and trade relations between the two nations. The Prime Minister was joined in the meeting by the Minister of Investment and International Cooperation, H.E. Sahar Nasr, and the Minister of Trade and Industry, H.E. Amr Nassar.

During a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, the Minister called on U.S. companies to increase their investments in the Egyptian market. Minister Shoukry emphasized the importance of the country's recent economic reforms in creating a business-friendly environment for foreign investors. Mr. Brilliant expressed the Chamber's vision for collaborating with Egypt on enhancing economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

U.S. Chamber visiting officials and AmCham Egypt, met with Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, H.E. Tarek El Molla and his team to discuss the special energy partnership between American companies and Egypt. The Minister spoke about the vital contributions being made to Egypt’s economy by the energy sector and ongoing efforts to achieve his vision of Egypt as an energy hub.

Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology H.E. Dr. Amr Talaat and his team welcomed the U.S. Chamber delegation and AmCham Egypt to discuss opportunities for expanding cooperation in the digital and information technology sector. The Minister spoke about the two pillars of this strategy: 1) establishing Egypt as an ICT hub for the region and offering ICT services as an export for targeted markets, and 2) transforming and developing Egypt’s digital economy.

During all his meetings, Mr. Brilliant outlined the road map of the U.S. Chamber's U.S. Egypt Business Council for addressing opportunities and issues that affect the American Business Community in Egypt and aligning it with the Government's priorities.
