AmCham Egypt and U.S. Chamber of Commerce jointly host GreenTech Business Delegation in Cairo May 15-16, 2022.

AmCham Egypt in partnership with The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S. Egypt Business Council are hosting the ‘GreenTech Business Mission to Egypt’, on May 15-16, 2022, in Cairo

As Egypt prepares to host COP27 on behalf of the African continent this November, both organizations are leveraging their strong track record of convening U.S. business leaders with key government stakeholders to lead this delegation, which comprises more than 40 U.S. companies, represented by more than 90 senior executives.

Leading the Mission for the U.S. government is Ambassador David Thorne, Senior Advisor, Office of the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, and Jake Levine, Chief Climate Officer, U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). The Delegation comprises senior representation from leading U.S. Government Financing Agencies and other organizations, including; Export Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), United Stated Trade and Development Agency (USTDA).

In addition to Senior U.S. Government Representatives from the Departments of State, Commerce and Energy, participating as part of the delegation, will be senior representatives from U.S. Companies; from multinationals to SMEs, across a wide array of sector focuses, including but not limited to agriculture, aviation, construction, digital, energy, finance, healthcare, transportation, and water resources management. 

Leaders of the Mission from the U.S. Chamber include:

• Mr. Marty Durbin, Senior Vice President, Policy; and President of the Global Energy Institute.
• Mr. Khush Choksy, Senior Vice President International Development, and Senior Vice President, Middle East and Turkey

Delegates are exploring opportunities for green investment within a wide range of sectors, including: power, renewables, agriculture, ICT, manufacturing, aerospace, transportation, finance and other sectors.

Delegates are attending a series of events and sectoral roundtable discussions with Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, and Members of the Egyptian Cabinet, on the latest reform measures undertaken by the government, and opportunities for investments with relevant sectors. Interactive roundtables are being hosted with:

• H.E. Hala El Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development
• H.E. Rania El Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation
• H.E. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment

• H.E. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy
• H.E. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology
• Engineer Yehia Zaki, Chairman, Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE)
• Mr. Ayman Soliman, CEO, Sovereign Fund of Egypt

AmCham Egypt and the U.S. Chamber are committed to demonstrating the critical role of the private sector in combating climate change, and the importance of a strong partnership with government.  The private sector can and must be leaders in deploying the technologies and systems necessary to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and decarbonize the economy, while government helps facilitate the ability to do so. This GreenTech Business Mission provides an important opportunity by promoting green investments and showcasing successful private sector projects.

Jointly with its partners at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, several major events have been hosted in preparation for COP27 since the start of 2022; including a major forum on January 24th and 25th,  “Building Momentum to UN COP27: Strengthening Public-Private Sector Collaboration on the Climate Challenge”, which featured as Keynote Speakers: The Prime Minister of Egypt;  The U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Challenge John Kerry; Members of the Egyptian Cabinet; and leading private sector officials. Additionally a number of roundtable discussions with  The Honorable John Kerry; and with Senior Advisor for the Special Envoy for Climate, Ambassador David Thorne, which helped outline ways in which the business community can work with the Government to promote green investments.
